Which of the goodly unGodly sent the Jehoves Witnesses to my door this morning?

You may think it a great joke but it isn't really funny to have to stand and humour a couple of clearly deluded women.
I know I should have invited them in and explained that my faith was the true way but wasn't feeling up to it this morning.

Sandy, you cannot blame all your troubles on the 'ungodly'. The blame for this falls squarely on the 'godly'. Regard it as a kind of parable where one is visited by one's own sins. If you were an atheist you would be far more understandin g and show a bit of tolerance towards the unfortunate victims of proselytisin g preists and sanctimoniou s sermonising.

whats unnverving about the JWs turning up on your doorstep is that they smile- all the time! its disconcerting and creepy. I live in a cul-de-sac, and last time they visited they came mobhanded. Been a long time since i have seen quite so many short and neat haircuts and white smiles.
I do seriously wonder is there is some hypnotising or brainwashing element to those smiles....

Do you know why Jehovah’s witnesses call. They know, of course, that you may be busy, or even afraid. But they feel impelled to call because of a danger on the horizon that you may have been too busy to recognize. Jehovah’s witnesses truly call out of love and consideration for you. They believe that your life is in danger.
Moreover, the Witnesses count it an obligation to call on you. They would feel that they had failed of a duty and done you an injustice if they deliberately ignored your home.

That's pretty much how the ungodly goodly feel about criticising religion. It's a moral obligation..and what thanks do we get? Not much, just accusations of being rude and disrespectful.

@Goodlife - Every religion that evangelises uses that same redundant rationale. Christian missionaries used that same argument when they go on their missions to the ungodly. Mormons the same. JWs are an active case in point.
That argument is arrogant and specious. It assumes that your particular flavour of religion is true in all its evidence free assertions and assumptions. It arrogantly assumes that people should be treated like incompetents or children - unable to make up their own minds and needing "guidance" from the wise and patient evangelists.
The argument in favour of such evangelical initiatives is to bring enlightenment to the masses, so they can enjoy gods grace - but that implies that god is like a commercial entity, a company, concerned only about his own customers, and only wiling to offer the benefits of his bounty to those signed up.
If your god is as loving and caring as you proclaim, then he would judge everyone on the merits of the way they lived their life - not simply whether they had been contacted and had signed up as a customer. Its a nonsense argument.
If you want to reach out to potential converts, confine yourself to the internet and mailshots - stop trying to badger people into converting. Its no accident that those most likely to convert as a consequence of such a visit are those most vulnerable to such unethical doorstepping.

Boxy, Haaa! That’s about it! It reminds me of a time I had to phone one of the utility companies for my relative. They wouldn’t speak to me – only to her – so she took the phone and relayed their questions to me which I then answered for her to relay back to them. I wondered how they knew she was who she was anyway!
So what would you do if Jesus and his disciples called on your door? If I remember correctly, he and his followers called on people. If my memory serves me correctly it he told his disciples to go to the homes. If they were welcomed they were to stay, but if not they were to shake the dust from their feet.
At least in your home you don't have to open the door. But I remember an
old lady saying to me once, "when the witnesses stop calling, it is too late!"
so be thankful they are still calling. Mind you, saying that - they've not called to preach to me for years.

I have a notice on my front door, from the moneysavingexpert.com website, that states that I do not want any cold callers knocking at my door, including charities and religious peeps, and that if they persist I will report them as it is against the law.
I am not sure if that last bit is true or not, but the notice has worked its magic so far.........
