Never met either. Had a step grandad who was alive earlier in my life though.
My maternal granddad died before I was born, my paternal granddad died when I was two. So sadly no memories at all, just a picture of me with my Dad's dad.

my granddad was a pilot in ww2 always remember him smoking a pipe...
Like og never saw my grandads, ihave 2 grandsons so they do get a little spoiled
Never knew my Grandfathers, mav. Either both died before I was born or just after.
My maternal grandad was always up at dawn and walked everywhere. He was small and thin and never sat still.
My paternal grandad was large and round and a great fan of the TV.
My maternal grandfather was the nicest, kindest, most unjudgemental man ever. He died two years ago, just weeks after my mother and I miss him more than I do my mother.
My grandad died 4 weeks ago :-( I have nearly 40 years of memories, which I'm thankful for, but there are too many to type.

My other grandad died in 1989. I loved him. His death was the first time I felt heartbreak.

i guess i was lucky to have known him then i was 18 when he died..he was 72..the same age as my dad..his son... [both of lung cancer]how uncanny is that??

ohhh ummmm inm so sorry to have asked this question please accept my apology i didnt know about your loss x
I don't remember much about my maternal Grandad, he died when I was 9. That seems quite old but I just don't :-(

My paternal Grandad died the year before I was born. I don't think I would have known him anyway. My mum never even met him and my parents had been together 6 years when he died!
I only knew my paternal grandfather. He was Welsh and a pillar of the local community. He was mean, selfish and very Victorian in style. I had no fondness for him at all.
Only Grandparent I had was my paternal grandfather. When I asked him about the war he said "you don't want to know about that". In later years when I asked my father about his youth he said exactly the same. So I cannot relate to the past. When I tried ancestry, I got no joy because I know nothing.
I had unconditional love from my Granddad and I adored him. When he died, a bit of me went with him. Wonderful memories of working the farm with him .
Don't worry Stoke. It's nice to read about granddads :-)

thank you ummmm.......
My maternal grandfather was a quiet and distant man who died when I was 22. My paternal grandpa was a laugh a minute who died 8 years ago. He'd gone downhill over the last 5 or 6 years of his life after being knocked down. I also knew 2 of my great grandfathers, one died when I was in my teens and he was a lovely man who was injured in ww1 but had a huge garden that he worked on till he was in his late 80s.
Seeing how many people didn't know their granddads does make me appreciate my time with him. He was a grumpy fecker though...so grumpy he was hilarious!
I don't quite remember my paternal grandfather he died when I was 5 years old. My maternal grandad had been a miner all his working life, I took my 6 month old daughter to Durham to see him. He still had strong arms, when he hugged me goodbye I thought I'd break, he died a year later at 86 years old. He was always a stern looking man with not much to say, always involved with the church when mum was small.
Ahh, Ummmm, that's sad. Sorry to hear of your loss :-(

I don't really have many Granddad memories. My Mum's Dad dies when she was a child - horrible circumstances, so I have only bad thought about that. My Dad's Dad passed away when I was 8/9. I do remember him, but not enough.

Now, if you'd had asked about 'nanny's', I have lots and lots of lovely memories there... :-)
