updating my computer

i have had my laptop for years, and we have just got fibre optic broadband, the engineer said that its because my computer is old that it takes ages to get connected and use the internet, if i bought a new one how do i transfer what is on the old laptop to the new one, never had to do it so am really stupid, also maybe best to get one that has a larger memory/hard drive so recommendations please

You could get a good sized external memory drive - say 500gb - and copy the content of folders across.
Do this by plugging the external drive into the laptop; highlight and copy the folders you want to save on the laptop; then paste them into the external drive.
If you are not doing online gaming most laptops will fulfill your needs. Get one that suits your own needs by testing the keyboard and screen in store before buying. Other posters on Ab have made recommendations for some supermarkets' offers.
Also look to see if you are offered Office as permanent or as a trial.
