I have just obtained a "new" (refurbished) Kindle Fire, which is great for most of the uses I require when travelling to, and in, meetings I have to attend.
However, I cannot use it to compose documents without upgrading the office app or installing a different one.
BUT when I have tried to save an app, I receive the message, "Your payment method has a non-USA billing address. A US credit card is required."
and when I contacted support (email), I received the response: "Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that any other services will work on your Kindle Fire 1st Generation outside the US."
