I have heard lots of stories from people who have seen spirits, and you know that they arent telling lies(because what would they gain from it anyway)
There are so many sightings etc that not all these people can be wrong.
I personally havent seen anything but i believe that there is something.
I really dont believe in these Psychics, they are frauds and tricksters, nothing else! I would like to see anybody making such claims prosecuted if they cant prove these claims to be true.
I believe that some people find them entertaining, but thats about it. I do not believe they can offer a ronseal guarantee, and there are far too many reports of cold-reading, hot-reading, listening in on the audience, asking the audience to fill out forms! of who they expect to contact, etcetc.

And I have seen no evidence to support the notion that self-proclaimed psychics can do anything other than self-promotion and making money....
i don;t believe in these so called psychics, i think make a living out of conning people - and very often vulnerable grieving people
Oh, I have personal experiences, I would fight anyone that tried to tell me that MY experiences weren't true.
However, these TV psychics are a farce. I imagine they find out peoples names from the credit/debit cards they pay on, compare that to local hotel bookings etc etc, then run their names against sites such as facebook. Many people poor their heart out on facebook, and most people that go to the tv shows have someone to find. Not really psychic, more like a good researcher.
Why, if they are genuine, do they have to advertise 'Psychic Fairs'?
I went to a psychic a while back well away from where I live and she was excellent. Many people dismiss them as charlatans who prey on the vulnerable but the woman I saw is in the judiciary and therefore trustworthy. Anyway she told me a lot about myself, my late wife, my kids and my wife's twin brother and his wife. She also mentioned that I was in a relationship and that I should have her accompany me in the reading. When my gf came in she, the psychic, was immediately troubled by 2 women bearing the same name trying to 'come through' - my late wife and the gfs mother had the same name - a fact that she would not have known or could have guessed beforehand. She even told the gf about her grandkids and that one of them has ADHD - again she could not have known that. My views on psychics in general is that the only person who knows they are genuine is the person who is being 'read'.
anyway, I knew this question would come up today! lol
have seen her.Derek and Colin fry......can't all be wrong.... have had experienced odd things myself that can't be explained...
Ratter/LazyGun/Mccfluff - maybe if you were to have a one on one as I did, it may make you think twice, possibly? Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that they are all genuine but to say all are con artists, i think, is wrong.
murraymints, I have experienced many odd things, which have been witnessed by others, noone I know would even try to disprove what I have been through. But TV psychics are phoney, without a doubt
"have seen her.Derek and Colin fry......can't all be wrong.... have had experienced odd things myself that can't be explained..." - Cannot all be wrong? What? all of -3- people, all of whom make a live from persuading the masses that they have psychic powers?

The fact that 3 entertainers wish to preserve their lavish lifestyle by agreeing with each other that they can speak to the dead is not any kind of evidence that they do genuinely have the ability....

As far as personal experiences and anecdotes go - one sees many of these - but they are all based upon subjective recall of conversations, reliant upon memory alone mostly, and can, with all due respect, be coloured by opinion - they might be interesting, might even be food for thought - but anecdotes are a very poor form of evidence...

Years ago my niece went for a private reading with someone and what she "saw" and told her was astonishing my niece said ... that was before facebook and other social web sites to get information from , the Psychic named my late brother who my niece briefly knew as she was only 2 when he died ...
When I had my 'reading', LazyGun, evrything was written down as it was spoken and I have these notes at home. I passed copies to my 2 sons - their first reaction was that they also wanted to go and see the woman whom I had seen. If they can be convinced then that's good enough for me. As I said previously, not all are con artists.
Well, having a contemporaneous written record would be a step up the evidence ladder - I presume the notes were written at the time, rather than after the event?

In any event, if genuine ability was demonstrated, you should encourage that psychic to undertake the Randi Challenge - If they can replicate their ability and demonstrate genuine psychic ability in a properly controlled environment, she would be making history, changing the laws of physics, and become instantly one of the most famous people on earth - Oh, and be 1 million dollars better off!
You presume correctly, LG, they were written as she spoke. When I next make an appointment to see her, i'll mention the challenge and see what she says!!
No belief whatsoever. Good cabaret acts though.

The "afterlife" justs sunds like a silly romantic notion.

One of the most powerful tools we possess is an imagination.
@yorkie- If she is as good and as genuine as you claim - she should know you are going to mention it even before you do! :)

I remain both sceptical and unconvinced, personally... :)
////There are so many sightings etc that not all these people can be wrong. ////

Lots of people observe ships disappearing over the horizon - at one time this was thought to be due to the earth being flat. All those people WERE wrong.
Having had a quick read about the challenge, one site statesd that the challenge was withdrawn in March 2010.

- I wouldn't expect anything less from you LG, you are, after all a scientist with a very analytical brain, are you not?
