Chap just knocked on the door and said "Local milkman".

We used to have a milkman when I was a kid , but we simply buy milk from Tesco now days in 6 pint containers.
The days of bottles of milk being left on the door step seem a life time ago.

Does anyone else still have a milkman ?

I did until I moved here 5 years ago.
I don't where I live now but certainly up to 6 years ago the area I lived in then did...............we called him Milky Dave (and he was very popular with the ladies)
we stopped a couple of years ago, we don't even see a milk float in the village now.
I have a milkman still, why not ? I very rarely see him, he leaves me a bill at the end of the month and I leave the exact money out for him, iif I leave a note he will bring me bread, eggs, potatoes etc the next day.
I see a milkman on our road most mornings when dog walking but I don't think he has very many customers.
Seeing Craft here reminded me of our local milkman who tours around a few villages here. He also runs a village shop. Very handy for one lady of my acquaintance who has a regular order of two semi-skimmed and a bottle of gin.
Oi!!

@dee sa - "Why Not"
- More expensive than supermarket
- Milk sits on door step all day , if they arrive after we have left house - Dear robber we are out
- Hassle of payment
- Cancelling of delivery for when we are away ...and then they forget and leave milk anyway (last straw , when we stopped delivery some 12 years back).
yes and on their website Milk&more you are able to order bread.eggs, potatoes etc for next day delivery

I pay by DD
Yes,but I never see him now-delivery( twice a week) too early and bill paid by direct debit. Have had milk delivered for years.
We were discussing Milkmen the other day, I said to the OH, the Milkman told me he's had every woman on this street bar one,
Her response,
I bet it's that snooty bitch at number 42!
:o(
Funnily enough we had similar experience, with a knock on door two weeks ago, OH went and man stood there saying he was a local milkman, would we consider having doorstep milk? OH patiently explained that we had stopped delivery a few years ago as milk in glass bottles had got too expensive and it was going sour quickly due to us being out all day, also the delivery was sometimes unreliable - that's why we stopped and we now get cheaper milk from supermarkets. To OH's amazement milkman replied in a real aggressive tone " Expensive? expensive? don't you CARE that I and other milk workers like me have families to support?" His tone of voice was like a red rag to a bull to Hubby who does not like conducting business on the doorstep and told him to leave promptly! Hardly the way to drum up business in a neighbourhood, is it?
We have a Coffee man,
We have one come round the street but we only use milk on cereals, about a litre a week. so we just get it as we need it.
I've never had my milk delivered. I've always lived close to a local shop which sells it. e.g. my local Co-op, 2 minutes walk away, is open from 7am to 10pm, 7 days per week. If I need milk I can just nip down the road for some.
We still have a milkman around here..I see him every morning on my paper round,in fact he nearly ran me over the other day when we both arrived at number 57 at exactly the same time.
Death by milk float would have been a bizarre way to go..
"He drowned in a milk bath covered by the Daily Telegraph"
Don't have milk delivered here though..Can't stand the stuff!
Hey WBA, keep out the hoss road.
Yam Yams ........... ^^^^ ;o)
