The main supplier of electricity here in NI has just announced an 18% price rise. Is it right that shareholders get their fat dividend cheques what ever the cost to the downtrodden consumer?

Personally, Sandy, I think they are taking the p1ss - the same as the gas and road fuel people
Hi sandyroe I expect the rises will eventually be rolled out everywhere despite their promises but it does seem excessive, there seems to be no end to power usage increases and the massive profit they made during our cold harsh LONG winter, seemingly is being ploughed back into green renewables whoopee.

\\\\\ Is it right that shareholders get their fat dividend cheques what ever the cost to the downtrodden consumer? \\

That is the way of the world........

If I am considering buying Electricity shares with my own hard earned money, i ask "What's in it for me?" and if the answer is a fat dividend cheque, then my answer is "deal me in."

But if the answer is no fat cheque but the consumer gets a better deal, then my answer is........"forget it."

That sums my attitude up to the world of stocks and shares.

Sqad,
I'm sure you're joking there.^ I'd bet you already give your winter fuel allowance to some charity for older people and might even add a little more from your voluminous pockets.
