This I agree with, "we need a voice" and who else is there for us but the EDL, whether you agree with their politics or how they go about things?

Nice to see some Muslims are prepared to speak out at last against their radical fellow Muslims.

That's kind of the point the York mosque is trying to counter. They say that Islam hosts political views of all kinds - extreme right, far left, and everything in between.

As I said on Jake's thread, I believe religion is an enemy of human progress. But it's just not as simple as muslim = bad.

I also find it rather uninspiring how 5,000 Muslims meet in the capital - and for some it's hardly any/not enough; Muslim Council of GB condemns the attack - it's not representative; York Mosque comes out against extremism - they're just a minority.

It's difficult to know what would appease those who are unable to see that the Muslim community harbours people other than terrorists.

i posted a good photo from today's mail, or people coming together, sadly it's because of Lee Rigby's death they did so, perhaps if they did this more often, for no reason than wishing to be friends, integrate in one another's community perhaps we wouldn't see such groups as EDL exist.

the only way we knew that 5,000 Muslims had met was via sp's post i think.. reported in a Belfast newspaper? it was held in a Mosque in Morden, which holds 10,000. if it's an informal gathering, one to offer specific prayers, only those attending would know it happened.
Did you see any info anywhere else about it because i haven't, we would have remained ignorant of it had sp not posted on it, so you can't applaud an action if you don't know it happened, perhaps that does or does not make sense...
