Pre-1964 One Way Street Signs

Being a collector, we use the old manuals to remind us of every pre-1964 British sign, but every now and then one isn't there and we need the memories of those around before us who can fill in the gaps. Oddly there is no picture of the one way street signs at the start of the roads (now a white on blue arrow) and have a single one online which has an arrow and one way street next to it here in 1968

As they vanished early I can't remember them either, and found this on a private road which has the holes for pole mounting which implies it wasn't custom made as the wall mountings have been drilled specially. I do know many old signs had two or more versions as well so just because I've seen one genuine one doesn't mean mine isn't as well, so minus an official illustration if anyone remembers if this was a standard issue on public roads I've got one more type in the bag and so far the only one in Britain either way.

When I was in the NY moors at the weekend, I was pleased to see replica (or refurbished) place name signs made of cast iron in white with black lettering and studded with reflectors as those circa 1950s (?).

The signs on the moors are nearly all original, each has been taken into their workshop and refitted. As they mainly had raised lettering they can be sanded and painted indefinitely unless they rust.

This had me racking my brains. From what I can rember of the only one way street existent in the town I grew up in in the Fifties, a single sign at the entry end similar to your first example but black on white and text on single line with arrow pointing left to right, sited at the side of the road. Only one road joined this street but I'm afraid I cannot recall what signage was used.

Canary, the ones with left/right arrows were in use at junctions approaching one way streets showing joining traffic which way to go. The ones at the entrance certainly could have an arrow pointing ahead but in the absence of the example in the old manuals online I'm not sure about the one I found yet but suspect it was probably official as well. The one way street signs along roads are still pretty common as there were so many, and interchangeable with the far rarer 'turn left/right one way only' of which I have two of one and one of the other, and also had a circle on top when on a pole.
