I tend to agree with the cashier, I see this so often and I think its quite rude to talk away on the phone while being served.
However, to be served in a shop while the assistant is chattering away either on a phone or to another person and who just holds their hand out for your money, is also rude manners, this used to happen regularly in our corner shop. What do you think?

A while ago I stayed at an american air force base in Germany. The security post is handled by the German military police. The american lady in front of me in the queue was nattering away on her phone. The german policeman said to her in the deadpan style only Germans can deliver; 'Have you come here to sign in or talk on your phone?'
I was stuck behind someone jabbering on her mobile a couple of weeks ago. She was so busy talking, trying to load her shopping with one hand and attempting to keep her toddler in check he was completely oblivious to the fact she was holding up a queue of people. Then she had to add getting her purse out and sorting out her credit and loyalty cards to her multitasking adventures.
I nearly volunteered to pay her bill just to get get rid of her and the check out assistant was equally frustrated.
