Hi there i am in a lot of pain and I went to my GP this afternoon thinking I was having a heart attack severe crushing pain in the centre of my back going up into my jaw that comes in waves approx every hour abdominal pain upper right hand side under the rib cage, my GP has given me strong painkillers and referred me to the hospital for a gallbladder scan. He thinks I may have a stone but I have never been in this much pain before. I honestly thought I was having a heart attack. He asked me what I had eaten over the few days and I had a roast dinner roast pots yorkshire pudding tuesday night. Full english breakfast wednesday morning. Homemade Eton Mess yesterday with double cream I only meant to have a bit but I ate the lot and a tuna mayonnaise roll at lunchtime today. He raised his eyebrows several times and then said this would suggest why my gallbladder was in spasm. He listened to my heart and said it sounded absolutely fine and he said many people go to a&e with pain like this thinking they are having a heart attack.

No, but i did have a friend who had this and rang an ambulance. She said it was "agony"
I can't help with your question, but you may want to look at a long term, healthy balanced diet.
I think, although sqad might put me right, you need to avoid fat as much as possible
The more fats you eat, the more frequent and severe the pain will be.

Avoid all fried foods, butter and cream; and check the fat content of any foodstuffs you buy.
All the people I know who have had gall bladder trouble have been told to drastically reduce fat and a couple have been told to avoid fat.
It's an awful pain and gets worse the more you go on. Get it sorted out asap, small op in and out on the day (most times). Inter alia they use Omeprazole to try and keep you in check before your moment on the slab.
i had that, then called out of hours doc, turned out to be pancreatitis, which was horrible, and that was caused by gall stones, or so i was told, had the gall bladder out. If you are still worried the only thing would be A&E. Your diet needs looking at though.
Cutting your fat down will certainly help...... the 5 Fs apply to those most at risk, fat, female, fifty, fair and freckled. Extreme dieting can trigger it (no more than 2lbs per week) - it's what got me as I was on a diet, then served a divorce so lop the stress on and I got a nasty virus, the result shedding 30 pounds in 2 months. Eight months on zap with the first spasm (about 20 mins)......and they say at its peak, it's worse than child-birth - there were two attacks at the end that had me within an inch of calling an ambulance in the middle of the night.

I had a collapsed gallbladder and had terrible pain in top of my stomach under my chest which went round full circle of my body, i also was being sick every 15 or so minutes all day long, doctor gave me an injection in my thigh can't remember what it was but it did not do any good. Due to being sick all the time i wasn't really eating but what i did manage to eat i made sure it was low fat. I had my gallbladder removed a week later.
I seriously wouldn't wish that type of pain on my worst enemy! Mine was excruciating and I was so relieved when I had the operation to remove my gall bladder!

I seriously thought I was having a heart attack did anyone else feel like that? I am relieved I have walked 2 miles today to doctors and chemists and home and I dont think if I was having a heartattack I could do that.
the spasmodic pain is dreadful. I found a heat pad relieved the symptoms a bit, your diet prior to the pain is very high in fat. are your stools discoloured or urine very dark ?
Gallbladder pain is excruciating. A few days after my scan I ended up in hospital when it got infected (watch out for dark wee and pale poo).

I went on a very low fat diet as they recommended until I had it taken out and still can't tolerate much fat or large meals now.

One of my ward buddies when in initially had a load of children and I asked her if it was true what I'd heard about the pain being worse than childbirth (my not having experienced the latter). She said she'd rather have 10 more children than the gallbladder pain.

Read food labels like a hawk, it's shocking how much fat is in everything, I aimed for no more than 3g of fat per meal. Once you start reading labels you may be in for a bit of a shock! Don't eat big meals either, large meals or multiple courses (so the food adds up) or lots of snacking don't help either (not me anyway).

Read up on what the gallbladder does, the less you provoke it into working, especially a lot, the more you risk pain.

Yes I am that is under control now last test hba1c 54
That HbA1c level of 54 still sounds a tad high Gordie. Its a hair over 7% in the old measure, and I had thought best practice suggested trying to get down to below 48 or 6.5% ( bearing in mind that a high normal in a non-diabetic would be around 5% or something like 38%.

So the HbA1c represents an average of the glucose load on the red cells over the last few months. Your reading would still translate to a glucose level in excess of 150 mg/dl, compared to a high normal of around 126 mg/dl.

As others have said - gallbladder stone is absolutely excruciating pain, radiating out from the centre/high back. Fatty foods are well known to exacerbate gall stones, and with the greatest of respect gordie, the diet you describe will not do you fat levels any good, or your glucose levels. Has no one offered you any dietary advice, or suggested meal ideas?

These differences might sound small and trivial to you, but a small drop in HbA1c levels represents a big reduction in the risk of diabetes- related diseases (eyes,kidneys, nerves)

Hi there thanks for your reply . The last reading was 79 so I have done quite well. My GP says there is still room for a lot of improvement but compared to 79 54 is a huge step in the right direction.
@Gordie Yes, you are right that is a very encouraging improvement, well done.

You still need to be vigilant about what you eat though, the work is not yet done, and that snapshot of a diet you provided earlier will not help either your gallstones or your glucose levels..... just sayin :)
I have seen my wife laying on the ground with gallbladder pain and completely unable to get up if her life depended on it.
I can sympathise with you gordie, I had my gall bladder out years ago.
The pain before hand was terrible.
I found that if I ate a tomato i was in even worse pain, and I was told that it was the tomato pips causing the pain.
I started removing the pips and the pain improved.
I also found that when I was in incredible pain, I could get the most relief by getting on the floor on my hands and knees, whether it just took the pressure off the gall bladder I don't know, but it certainly helped, I hope it helps you. X
