The Aristocrats Joke - I Don't Get It!

Firstly, I suppose this question works only if people know the joke to which I am referring!

The punchline is "we're the Aristocrats".

The lead up to the punch line is filthy and depending on how its told extremely funny, but I just don't 'get' the punchline.

I have a theory, but that's all.

Am I just being thick???

I had the same issue a few years ago with another joke where the punchline was "he has an orange for a head" (can't remember the lead up to the punchline) and I never got that one either.

It's the juxtaposition between what they do and what they're called, where the humour lies, - at least in the version I know, told to me (I now remember) in Paris by an American chicken-farmer about half a century ago; very funny, hee hee hee!
