I just had a chat with o2 about an unexpected ten pounds on my mobile phone bill. It was thanks to calling 118118. They charge apparently 3 pounds a minute. If you ask them to put you through to the number you want the charge continues for however long you are on that call as well. I also rang 118434 (with that stupid ad in my head 118434 why pay more) and guess what. They also charge 3 pounds a minute!
I asked o2 if any of the providers are cheaper. He said 118402 is 1.50 a minute. Best is internet search for number if you have an iphone.
Just thought I would put this out as a warning to anyone who doesnt know the very high charge you are paying for directory enquiries.

I've had this as well. I'm surprised 118118 and the others are still running when you can use the internet to get the info you need. Mind you there may be some people who do not have the use of the internet.
Time was when the telephone company realised a call made was in their interest so they supplied the ability to make it free. But a combination of misuse by some and a fanatisism for privatising and charging for everything one could get away with, ensured service for goodwill was replaced by pay or you don't get.

I kind of knew it was going to cost me but didnt realise how much Tigger.
Do they actually show the costs in the small print bit at the bottom of the tv ad?
I thought they advised the charges upon making the call??

I havent seen the tv ad for years. They definitely did not advise me of their call charges when I rang them Meg.
I've never used them myself, though I do enjoy the ad's they're very funny! But I've not noticed them putting the charges on the ad. Next time it's on I'll pause it and see if there is small print, as they should advise the prices before charging them.
