Hajibs And Passport Control

What happens at the passport control with Muslim women who wear a hajib,and how is their passport foto showing?

I am pretty sure that a full face photo is required for a passport. So if Immigration officials at the Airport want to identify someone, than any veil or hajib would need to be removed temporarily to allow that to happen.

Can't see anyone having any difficulties with this procedure surely ?

A friend of mine used to work on checkin and had to take women behind screen to see their face. She said a number of them were quite bruised.

The hajib doesn't cover the face so I can't see a problem with not being able to recognise someone.

Niqab: This is a piece of cloth that covers the face, at least everything beneath the eyes. In many instances the Niqab continues all of the way up to the hair line. In those cases, a slit is cut for the woman's eyes, but her face remains concealed. Niqabs are worn almost exclusively with Hijaabs and Abayas. If a woman (in theory) were to only wear a niqab, her hair would and chin would exposed as the Niqab only covers the front of the face.

The hijab shows the face clearly. Anybody covering their face by a veil or burka has to show their face to a woman passport control officer in a way that retains the woman's modesty.

I've seen that happen, the woman in front of me at Gatwick a couple of flights ago was wearing niqab, she was taken aside by a customs official to verify her passport. Passport photos still have to be full face if they are issued in the UK, irrespective of what you normally wear in the outside world.

(It's similar with beards, OH shaved his off, customs still look very oddly at him as his face doesn't match his passport photo).

A hijab is a headscarf that also covers the chest area

Boxtops, I seem to remember two terrorists escaped using their sisters passports a few years ago. Can anyone else remember or am I going mad:)
