Swollen Pink Itchy Eyelids

Because I'm currently in contact with something I can't avoid but am allergic to, my eyelids have swollen and are pink and itchy, with a constant stream of tears out of the side. I take antihistamenes and have been using aqueous cream, recommended to me years ago by a doctor. This time though, the cream makes my eyelids sting and doesn't seem to be working as well as usual at stopping the itching. Can anyone recommend anything else I can use on my eyelids please?

I was advised to use this for a similar problem. I was a bit suprised as it is for things like athlete's foot but I was told if i put a tiny amount on my eye lids it is perfectly fine to use. I had very pink itchy eyes, this got rid of the issue within a week. But, after I stopped using it, the itch came back. Eventually it went away on its own, I never found out what caused it. I also started to use Baby shampoo as normal shampoo was irritating my eyelids, that helped too.

Thanks jd - I think I need to use something as a barrier as much as anything. It's definitely an allergy (and perhaps stress) that brings on my flare-ups. I have heard about baby shampoo being better for people with sensitive eyes mind.

Difficult.....may be difficult to cure.
1% hydrocortisone cr, applied thinly to the eyelids making sure none of the creme gets in contact with the eye.This creme can be bought over the counter.

If your eyelids become painful to touch it may well mean an underlying infection and may require antibiotics either tablets or ointment.

Thanks Sqad, I've been trying to put off using the hydrocorisone cream because it's going to go on for about another three weeks I think, but needs must I suppose! If I just use a tiny bit and only where it's needed, hopefully it won't thin the already wrinkly skin any more.

I get beary eyes which the optician said was just gunge (Blephitis) and a solution called Blephasol would sort it. Wiped on morning and night.
It is not prescription but does it for me!

mjwman - my eyes aren't bleary, so thank goodness I don't have to ask anyone for Blephasol for my gunge, although they are now two of my favourite words... lol
