What do you think of Halloween? I love the kids coming round and espscially if they do something, joke, sing, without even been asked.A lot of kids just stick their hands out, grab what they can and do nothing! Must say, the majority of the kids here are very good at doing something! What are they like with you?

Interest here seems to have tailed off in recent years. Sometimes the local children come and knock, but mostly they don't. I suppose that once they reach a certain age, the interest goes, and, if no younger ones move in, the activity just fades away. When the youngsters did come, they were always polite, and some would sing a little song, but mostly it was just "Happy Halloween!" We took it in good part, and had some satsumas, etc. ready, and everybody seemed to have nice time.
If I'm honest it pees me off. I have to get about £15 worth of sweets as so many hordes come round - sometimes 12 at a time with their parents. Plus the doorbell rings almost non-stop from about 5.30pm to 8pm.
Love it Wimp...'specially when I lived in Canada. My last home was good for children trick or treating but there's been none since I moved here..
...so I am doing a Halloween dinner for friends on Thursday. Who knows? If the wine flows the neighbours might be visited by a group of pensioners...x
I've been in this house for 5 years and have never had a trick or treater knock.
older ;;kids; wanting money. in scotland it is called guising and children come in disguise and do a joke or a song etc before they get an apple or sweets. all in good fun! love wheaten
I put chilli oil in the chocolates. That'll teach the little B's.....
Very little action here and no party planned as the Grandchildren are on holiday, I do scare myself everytime I walk past the mirror in this outfit though.

The children here are delightful! They all tell jokes or recite something, we've even had magic tricks! It's nice seeing the little ones as they get older (mums and dads join in too) Queenie and I decorate the porch and have "scary" music playing to add to the atmosphere, all in all we enjoy it as much as the kids.
We don't get any singing and dancing, just costumed kids of varying ages with their mums or dads. They only come on the 31st as well so we haven't had any at all yet.
The Lady that used to live next door always made an effort, lanterns, pumkins ghostly windows (Ghosts, spiders etc)... and it looked great. All for her children... Three of the cutest Witches ever! if that is possible (Charmed aside). Since the Eldest grew past it though, it did tend to fade away without her friends coming around.
I absolutely hate Hallowe'en. The signs are up in our windows already saying "please leave us alone". Can't bear it.

When we were little we did apple bobbing and told scary stories - none of this going door to door, begging for sweets or money.

Same applies to Guy Fawkes door to doors - clear orf.
I'm with Boxy.
Trick or treating is an American thing that should never have taken off in this country, it often ends with the kids vandalising properties of those not giving treats and the elderly being abused and frightened. I detest it, they wont get anything from me, I dont encourage such things.

When I took mine trick and treating I took them to houses I'd prearranged it with.
i hate halloween, the sooner its over the better!

Some kids want to go guising but although still kids don't go because it's not cool. The little ones love it and it's great to see them soooo exited and having fun like children should!
Bah, I hate Halloween with a vengeance. I'll be sticking the big lad in the porch, that puts anyone off knocking ;)
If you hate it....

Cook brussel sprouts...
Melt some chocolate...
Cover sprouts in chocolate and leave to cool...

Give to trick or treaters with a smile.. :-)
that is effort plus its a waste of good sprouts and chocolate, I prefer just to glare at people from the window like a bulldog
