Do You Still Tip?

How many of you still give Christmas tips, if you do, who do you give them to and how much do you give, a sum of £5 has been suggested but is that a little steep?

In these days one does not seem to have the same personal contact with the various services at one's door, has one did years ago.

Take the dustman for example, some councils won't allow their employees to accept tips and besides gone are the days when they would come to where you kept the galvanised steel bin, lift it on their shoulder take it to the vehicle and empty it and then return it from where they had picked it up.

Now one has to wheel the various bins to the front of one's property and wheel them back when they are empty.

And who has a milkman these days?

Always a £1 to taxi drivers. The fares usually 7 or 8 quid so it's no big deal.

Never the same postman and usually get another persons mail in with mine.
No paperboy (I live across the road from the newsagent)
Have never tipped the binmen
Brother does my windows

So no, no tipping here.

As far as I now they all get a Wage for doing their jobs,
No-one tips me for doing my job.

I have a milkman - he gets a bottle of wine with the empties at Christmas.

I tip the binmen if I can catch them (they move fast these days) - good blokes - nothing is ever too much trouble.

We tip our paper delivery people - they are always prompt and reliable.

No milkman, different post men, don't see bin men.

My gardner gets a case of beer and I give the butchers £20.

It's not always easy to catch the bin men when you live in a block, like me, but I try to catch them and tip them. I usually end up saying something stupid like This is for a quick drink after work, or This is to say thanks for not scratching my cars, you can scratch that one though, he's never here, ha ha ha.

I tip taxi drivers also. I'm just so greatful I don't have to lug all myshopping. I may tip the postie this year as we seem to have a 'regular' and he's always delivering redeliveries to me.

We used to have a bin man whom I quite fancied, and if I saw them I'd end up starting stupid conversations, like you do with cab drivers, along the lines of, Hey guys, got a busy day today, was it an early start? They probably thought I'd been let out on a Care In The Community programme.

Gosh...I just remebered that my parents would tip the postie and milkman every year ...with a carton of ciggies...thats ten packs. No one would do that now. Never mind the health issue...it would cost a fortune.

Yes.......bank manager and the girl(teller) gets a pressy

The girls in the supermarket get a pressy.

The Pool cleaner gets a pressy.

THe Postman gets a pressy.

Pressy= a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates.

The children, grandchildren and one greatgrandchild get "bugger all.".....and that is more than they deserve.

I tip my postie because she's lovely and reliable and always cheerful.
If I catch the bin men they will get a tip too.

I use taxis more now for getting to the station. If I have to lift my own cases in and out of the cab he gets the agreed fare but the jolly ones who call me love and carry the cases for me will get a good tip.

The window cleaners are fantastic so a good Christmas box for them too...x

I will be tipping the postman, but only because I have several parcels a week delivered and the poor sod is probably sick of knocking my door and being confronted with my morning face :)

£5 all, milkman, postman [ if I recognise as the regular one] window cleaner, dustmen, chocs for the GP's surgery staff and the pharmacy.
