WR.
Every picture tells a story eh .Would not say they were laughing at the contents of the debate but looked a good story. Only thing you can be really sure of printed on the paper is the price.
Watch Iain Duncan Smith SNEAK OUT of food banks debate as Tories LAUGH at stories of starving families... http://mirr.im/1dQTfG6

I thought it was shocking, they have no concept of how ordinary people, earning less than a third of what they do, have to do to get by.
totally disgusting behaviour. they have no concept of the real world and don't want to know.
I am confused....

60 years ago, the Welfare state came into existence to help the poor.

50 years ago...there was rich and poor and few benefits.

40 years ago.. Still rich and poor.....more benefits.

30 years ago.....rich and poor.

20 yrs ago..g between rich and poor widening.

Today...rich and poor + food banks and multiple benefits.

In the last half century we have has Labour and Tory governments.

What is happening?
Maybe IDS went to the toilet. This is from the Mirror, so not exactly unbiased reporting. The video is only 9 seconds long. Did anyone hear the discussion before that because I don't know what induced the jeering. Any other links to this story?
Normal Tory attitude, why is this News ?
Daily Mail version next please...
Here's a link - this was on the radio last night - in one constituency, people are literally fighting over the cheap veg http://www.bbc.co.uk/democracylive/house-of-commons-25431723
Thanks Boxy. I see nothing about laughing and jeering or IDS sneaking out in that.
Another link to the Mirror. It should be remembered that the Trussell Trust opened its first food bank in the UK a long time ago, not under a Tory government, but in 2004 under a Labour government. Perhaps things weren't entirely rosy then either, eh?
I don't think the issue is as much that of foodbanks Naomi as it is of the behaviour of some of the Tory backbenchers who seem to be modelling them selves on Rick Mayal's New statesman character
"Maybe IDS went to the toilet" - Naomi.
Left the chamber at 5.04 and returned at 6.31. Maybe IDS had the runs.
Who are you talking about - and why do you think they're modelling themselves on that character?
Ken, so maybe he had an appointment. He didn't sneak off to avoid the debate, as has been implied - he came back.
According to their own website, the Trussell Trust opened their first food bank in a garden shed and garage in Salisbury in 2000. Since 2004 they have opened 380 and in 2012/13 gave food to over 360,000 people, 127,000 of which were children.

Whether you believe the story in the mirror about the Tories laughing and sneering the fact that so many of the main players chose to leave the debate after just an hour is, imho, totally disgusting.
Naomi, IDS and the rest of his party have done all they can to avoid this debate. It only came about because an on line petition raised the necessary numbers for it to be heard. He didn't even have the guts to speak, instead leaving it to Esther McVey.
