This irritates me actually :) I think the man in question does the whole issue of non-belief and atheism a disservice by looking like a prat when being sworn into office. Brings atheism/non-belief into disrepute, is my feeling.

Churlish of me, probably :)

I don't see why it reflects on atheism, lg?
@Pixie I have always viewed "Pastafarianism" as satire, a parody religion, which grew out of atheist/non-believer discussions about god and evidence for god and all of that.

Wearing a strainer on your head whilst being sworn into office just kind of demeans the office you are being sworn into, and makes the person, and by association, atheists/atheism look like a bit of a dick, IMO.

But I admit to being churlish and somewhat curmudgeonly :), so it is only my opinion.
I don't think you are. I admit I'd never heard of it before, but he seems to be identifying himself as religious. So i thought, that's fine. They can have him:-)
Rather surprising, coming from a country where irony is not well practised.
I think non-believers look at religion from all sorts of angles. Some ignore it completely, some, like Pastafarians, find nothing but humour in it, whereas others are aware of the damage it causes and so take a rather more serious view of it.
I believe any religion with a sense of humour (however suspect) is a step in the right direction.
This is just another stupid idea from those who prefer to believe anything but the truth, simple.

LoL. Nothing like a reasoned debate, offering ideas and backing it up with evidence, is there - and your post was nothing like that. Funny though.

goodlife //This is just another stupid idea from those who prefer to believe anything but the truth, simple.//

Another stupid idea? You mean like Jehovah's Witnesses? Or any of the thousands of other delusional religions.
I just think the man is an idiot. End of.
Pastafarianism has only been goung a few years and already there is a schizm as the colander cult emerges. Only time will tell which philosophy is full of holes.

I can see where it is going to go. How many varieties of pasta are there?

I think Lasagnaism will probably end up with the best sauce.
Goodlife, are you and Idiosyncrasy in cahoots? You regularly arrive here at around the same time.
I think the puttanescistis may last the course..
What a prat. He looks like he`d be more at home on the Monty Python Show. I expect the woman swearing him in was trying hard to keep a straight face.
But surely, if the guy does a good job in public office, what does it matter what "religion" he professes to have/believe.

I do however, applaud the whole FSM lot for taking religion with a pinch of humerous salt :-)
beso@ Well it show that you don,t know Jehovah’s Witnesses has resulted in their being haled before police officials, judges, and rulers earth wide.
Legal cases involving the Witnesses have numbered many thousands, and hundreds of these have been appealed to higher courts around the world.

And of this has had a profound effect on the law itself and has often fortified legal guarantees of basic freedoms for Jehovah’s Witnesses.

But this has not been the main objective of Jehovah’s Witnesses, one day you will know that a guarantee.

//basic freedoms for Jehovah’s Witnesses//

I notice you never see a solo JW, they always seem to have a Carer with them when they go out!
/ being haled before police officials, /
should that read 'being hauled before police officials'
