Someone posted that AB had gone quiet, so here's a question. I'm looking for a new hobby. I've seen suggestions elsewhere on AB, but none has appealed to me. To try to narrow the field, I'm a 66 year old male retiree with an OH. I do like fixing things, and so that's the avenue I'd like to explore. All suggestions gratefully received!

Get yourself on Pinterest and have a mosey around the topics, there are plenty of ideas on there.

Archery? I've always fancied having a go, my two daughters have bought me a beginners course as a birthday present!
There is loads of things you could use your skills for.
I work with severely disabled adults. And to give them meaningful activities we could do with someone that could adapt things, such as controllers, so they could play.
Restoring antique furniture?
Set up a train set in a spare bedroom
Not a fixing things hobby, Arrods but a suggestion....

My Ma's home has a lovely sitting room used for little get togethers. Mostly the ladies for a knit and natter etc.

Once a week a chap comes in and takes the men off for a card playing afternoon. The guys love it.....some male company in a Men Only! room for the afternoon....just a thought.
following on murmuring gness's suggestion - old people, male and female in your area who may have small jobs that they are unable to do for one reason or another and cannot find a tradesman to do. would you, could you help them?
Upholstery ?
If you're fit organisations like the National Trust and others have volunteers who clear footpaths....tend hedges and bash rhododendrons ......that last one is so appealing....☻
Doing my garden ? Lol..
I have lots of hobbies Arrods but recently I lost my Mum and it left a big hole in my life, so I went to our local volunteer office. There are so many old people looking for help, I'm doing a befriending visit every week just to chat and keep people company but they are also looking for folk like you who can help out with odd jobs and gardening.... Win, win for me anyways. Good luck whatever you choose to do.
i've got loads of things to occupy a fit man or men. please apply asap to avoid disappointment.

Go to your local Age Concern and see if you can help in their shop, or one of the other charities that takes used furniture. They often have pieces that just need a bit of repair or a repaint, to bring them up to scratch to sell in the shop. If they have a Day Centre for Age Concern, that's another place to go - you might pick up lots of requests for helpful odd jobs from there.
i suppose it depends on who is nearest.

masie - glad you have found something to comfort you. x

there are lots of little jobs that some people just cannot do mostly because they are infirm. i'm not suggesting painting the outside of the house but maybe just sweeping a path or chasing cobwebs with some feathers. things like that.

if not . . . . . . . . plenty for you here in cornwall. take no notice of other people on this thread.
Thank you LJ x I'm waiting to pass the CRB check at the moment but can't wait to get started :o)
