Since we have been on this farm we have been battling our Landlady for a contract. All the terms and conditions were laid out but due to time restraints we couldn't wait for a contract before moving in.

Yesterday she arrived with our contract, it is so flawed and just totally not what we had originally agreed to, if it wasn't so devastating to us it would have been laughable. The rent has jumped up by £250 per month, We apparently are not now permitted to keep animals on our farm and the lodge that we specifically took on for letting and the "Animal Assisted Therapy" we are now not allowed to let.

The land that originally was part of our agreement has been reduced dramatically. The track up to the farm has deteriorated to such a degree due to recent storms and rainfall is starting to get dangerous and the landlady say she cant do anything about it until the summer. It has all gotten too much.

Carakeel been quite poorly over the last few days and was admitted to hospital, the ambulance had difficulty getting up the track and the driver was not pleased.

So we have thrown in the towel, we have pretty much lost everything, all the animals are now going to be sold and we have to find somewhere else to live promptly, we have lost a lot of money that was invested in this venture, we can retrieve a little by selling up what we bought but we will still lose thousands.

We are both naturally devastated.

We are fighters and we will come through this I'm sure, at the end of the day we still have each other and that is what really matters.

O god ratter I dont know what to say....
Oh, Ratter. That is awful news. I don't know what to say.
That's terrible news ratter. As suggested, could you not relocate? I appreciate it would be a big upheaval but you've done it once.
I am sure that your friends on this site will offer support and guidance, or just listen if you want to vent! I wish you all the best at this difficult time and hope that you can retrieve as much of your investment as possible.
Thats tough ratter,i feel for you.Maybe it's worth a talk to a solicitor.Good luck in the future.

Scrivens, relocating would just be too expensive and very difficult to find the right property and we really just want to get out of hear now and put it behind us, we put so much work into this place and we really couldn't start that all over again.
When you say the Ts&Cs were 'laid-out' in what form was that?

We are seeking legal advice but that wont change our decision to leave here. We want to stay in the same area as we love the the people and the area.
Ratter, I am just so so sorry. That's devastating news, please pass our best to carakeel too.

On the point of the contract - did you have legal advice before you took over the farm, so you had some expectation of the terms and conditions of your occupancy? If so - the landlady can't just change it (unless of course your initial term is up, and the lease said that the terms could be changed before renewal). If I were you - and if you have the energy to do it, given everything else which has happened - I'd go and see your solicitor now, to get them to look at the proffered contract before you decide. Although - all things considered - it sounds as if this really is the last straw :-(
^ sorry, posts crossed
That's sad news Ratter, I hope something can be worked out and you can stay and carry on your good work.

Zacs, nothing legal was put on paper.

We have since found out that our Landlady has done exactly the same thing to previous tenants.
Ratter I'm so sorry to hear this news, you both must be absolutely gutted. What about Whistonian's idea of getting professional advice, is there a slither of hope?
Was anything put on paper?
I'm so sorry Ratter, you and Carakeel so wanted it. I do hope Carakeel is on the mend and will be home soon x
I am so very sorry, what a rotten thing to happen. Many people here will wish so hard for it to work out for you. Sorry Im not much help, but you have my thoughts and good wishes.I do so feel for you both.

Boxy, we had nothing on paper, we had to take this place quickly as the place we were going to move into fell through at the last minute and our house sale was in the final weeks. We took a bit of a gamble I suppose but our backs were against the wall.
RATTER......that is a tough call.

I am truly sorry.

I agree with Prudie and Whistonian....get expert advice.
Could you squat ? Seems like this woman needs a lesson.
