Does anyone believe the MOD should fund a sperm bank for personnel going into theatre in the event they lose their testicles in an IED attack?

For those not familiar with the story I'll keep on noodling for a link.

Because it says Mod in the title I thought this was an interesting sideline for Moderators!
Would they also store eggs from female servicemen? (Yes, I know what I've written there.)

I wouldn't have any objections to it. Be interesting to read more on this.
Jeremy Vine show? Yes, just listened to it. I`m not sure though. If they store sperm, then why not other body parts 'just in case'?
237SJ, I'm not sure how they could store other body parts?
Will always come in handy for the future!!
I think that both sexes should have the opportunity to have sperm or eggs stored in case of injury. The servicemen that are sent out to do 'the job' are, in the main, young soldiers and they should have the right to father/mother future life. Too many are not coming back at all
Doesn't seem an entirely unreasonable proposition to me.

I read an article the other day but I'll be damned if I can find it now.......might have to clear my browsing history now though ;-)

Yes, it has just been on Jeremy Vile.

237 what other body parts do you have in mind?

I was thinking blood, bone marrow - that sort of thing. Don`t know if it`s possible though.

I'm not in agreement with the idea at all.

It is a personal choice to join the armed services and you take on board the risk of being sent to hostile environments where bad things may happen.

I seriously doubt any other employer would fund this service so why should the MoD?

There is of course nothing stopping the individuals from making a private arrangement.

I think that the guy on the radio`s point was that it costs to store sperm privately and it`s not affordable to lowly paid sqaddies. Maybe one of the military charities could investigate.
No.

That may have been his point but I don't see why the taxpayer should shoulder the burden.

Perhaps the MOD should stop buying ballistic boxer shorts to fund a sperm bank?
Nor do I Eccles, because they must weigh up the cost of how many times an accident like that happens versus the amount of people who want their sperm stored 'just in case' which is why I think it could be a case of a military charity to look into funding it.

I don't think it's right at all, as has been said, no other employer would fund it. I was a RM for years, when I signed I knew there was a risk I could be sent to War, (I was in '82) if you don't accept the risks, don't join!

I wonder if Civilians would be given the opportunity to make a deposit too?

I understand the anguish but I sincerely believe it is the individuals responsibility to deal with if they want children.
The MOD can have some of mine if it likes. I've got plenty and it is only going to waste. I am far too old to join the Army now, at 61, but I can do my bit ! Every little helps !
