Has anyone else had one like this ?
From supposed Tesco credit card bank ?
The man never introduced himself, and he got my last name wrong.
He said that due to some transaction they had had to block my card.
He asked for my DOB and then signals went off when he asked me for my bank sort code. He said he needed to verify it was my account. I said I would not give him that information, he spoke very fast and when I asked him to slow down he became very condescending. He said unless I could verify my account he could not discuss it further and I should ring the number he had called on which was 01415374000. I hung up, and when I looked inline at my bank it was closed due to maintenance, so I could not call them on the 24 hours number.

scaaaaaaaam scammmity scaaaaaaaam!
definite scam

the scammy bit he didnt get to is ..... he doesnt put his phone down and so when you lift it up to dial your bank, it goes back to him.....
and he then says - hello bank speaking .... that is quite OK give him the details etc...
Providing you have not disclosed any of your details you need do nothing else as this was obviously a scam. No bank or credit card company will ask for any of those details over the phone .
Sounds like a scam, never give anyone your birthdate, bank account number, sort code if you dont know who they are. Ring Tesco Monday and tell them the phone number.

They rang me on my mobile
Like others, I suspect that it's a scam.

However . . .

A few years ago I got a call which allegedly came from Santander, regarding suspicious withdrawals from my account. The caller wanted to run some security checks in order to ensure that he was speaking to the correct person. Like you, Tamaris, I was VERY suspicious but it eventually turned out that he really was from Santander and that three unauthorised withdrawals, totalling £800, had been made from my account. (I eventually got it back).

So, now that we seem to have established that the phone number may well have been genuine, I suggest calling 0845 300 4278 (which is DEFINITELY genuine!) to see if there really is a problem

Thank you Buenchico but it is down until tomorrow due to maintenance x
I had a similar thing with Eg many moons ago Chris. I said to the nice man that I was going to hang up and go and phone the number on the back of my egg card from a different phone. He was amazed and delighted, said I was the first person EVER who he'd phoned who had done something so sensible....and yes it was a real call from Egg, and yes mu card had been misused. That was an wonderful december, between the two of us 5 cards got hacked, no link, no idea why just bad luck.
>>>it is down until tomorrow due to maintenance

Well I got part way through on that 0845 number by pressing Option 2 but it then wanted a credit card number (which I don't have). There was a message about possible long waiting times but nothing about the system being down.

"So, now that we seem to have established that the phone number may well have been genuine"

Highly unlike to have been genuine, IMO.
