Just heard on the Today program, that there is breaking news about Maddy.
Apparently an area of scrub land has been cordoned off. Nothing on the BBC News website yet.

The Met said a month ago Mikey that they were waiting for permission to excavate a number of sites, Probably that is now commencing.

I have always felt a kind of connection to this case. I arrived in Rome on holiday, the day the Mccanns arrived to see the Pope. I remember that all the TVs in the bars and restaurants were reporting the case and everybody seemed to be talking about it. I hope that this is finally put to bed in the next few days or weeks...one can only imagine what the parents must have gone through these last 7 years.
Complete nightmare for them. They need some answers- although this doesn't sound good.
Although their apartment should not have been entered by whoever, the fact remains the McCann's left their children unguarded in a foreign country.Whilst I feel very sorry that little Maddie's life has probably been cut very short I have very little sympathy for the parents.
always good to hear from a perfect parent...
Yeah....it drives me mad how opinionated and judgemental people are.
Surely everyone is entitled to their opinion whether we agree with it or not?
Of course. But this thread isn't about the rights and wrongs of what the parents did. That has been debated for the last 7 years..
They are, dunnitall, and others are entitled to disagree.
OK then jmo and ummmm, would either of you left infant twins and a small daughter in a room unattended whilst you went out to dinner with friends? I don't think so.

Morning Grumpy, that's been 'chewed over' on here many times, and quite a few agree with you, but this thread's not about allocating blame, it's hopefully about bring closure.

'Bringing' ^^^
Please, no more McCann-bashing.
I hope this "breakthrough", if that's what it is, brings their agony to an end.
Good morning to you Baldric.Fair enough but I feel this case has, for far to long, been about the parents rather than the search for poor Maddie who, after all, is the innocent victim in all this.
Personally no I wouldn't but neither would I judge someone who had a error of judgement which lead to such heartbreaking effects for them. No-one's perfect. Not me. Not the Mcanns. Not you. Somewhere in your life you too will have done something, stupid, dangerous, or both, because that's human nature. It doesn't do to judge.
Agree with you grumpy, but back to Mickeys question. It appears there are a number of sites, they are not saying what they expect to find here - could be anything.
I totally agree that this debate has been 'done to death' but social needs should never override parental responsibility imo.
