We will be doing mumbai delhi agra jaipur and down to varkala for 2 weeks by the sea but anyone got any must see places? We dont want to go to Goa as it is now far too commercial and full of European holiday makers but if anyone knows any peaceful places that would be great

you could go to places like Ranthambore and look for tigers in the reserve - there aren't many left , though, so you might not think it's worth the effort.

Varanasi for the ghats and the Ganges and the funeral pyres (rather odd sort of thing for tourists but it is something unusual)

Atlanta they rape and kill people here too. I have found the iNdian people to be lovely. There are good and bad people everywhere. Jno & Jordyboy thank you. I wish I could look at your photos too. So far we have booked to fly into Mumbai & stay a few days and then I think Jaipur Agra Delhi then a quick trip to Nepal but now I have seen Shimla perhaps there instead then down to Varkala after that we will still have 5 weeks to fill. I am definitely going to book a backwater trip I have looked and they seem fab.

2 months, lucky you :) sounds like you are including the "Golden Triangle" and as you have plenty of time I'd suggest that during that bit of your holiday you go to Fatehpur Sikri after Agra and before Jaipur (its on the way) then if you fancy Udaipur which is further south, and very beautiful, you could stop off at Pushkar. While you are in Delhi would recommend a visit to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, one of my favourite places, among many, that we saw in two very hectic weeks!
