I am looking to buy a mustard pot for someone, so if anyone in AB land makes their own mustard, does the spoon have to be wood or metal and what size of pot would be big enough and can you recommend a mustard pot and spoon? Ta Muchly.

Hi woodelf I do not think it matters but mustard would taint wood I would think,I have a mustard pot which is part of a cruet set in metal with metal spoon it is the size of an eggcup, you do not want it really any larger as made mustard goes hard if unused immediately.
Colmans of Norwich do some nice ones .

woodelf (wave hello) are you able to use Ebay? You might be able to get ideas there.

I can't remember the last time that I saw a mustard pot - not this century anyway.

Modern or trad.? spoon made in boxwood is OK but very cheap, silver or bone or old ivory better, pot could be a glass insert in a silver holder. Try antique shops.
Hi Woodelf, I too like the quirky Colmans ones, be aware not all come complete with spoons.

It depends on your friends kitchen design I suppose, fun or classic?

My dad used to mix his English mustard in an egg cup, using the handle of a tea spoon. He use the teaspoon handle to scrape the mustard on to his plate.

Many Thanks Guys and I have looked at Amazon for ideas and there are quite a few, but there is a Colmans one too and though it has a wooden spoon, I may go for that one, on the premise that if Colmans go for a wooden spoon, then so be it. Big waves to Wolf and loads of Xs to Mamya - and if AB Editor is reading this, why do I have to keep signing in if I'm away from AB for a few days?
mine is wooden.

Okay Slinky, what kind of mustard pot have you got?...size, material made of, etc.
A wooden spoon is fine - it doesn't matter if it's tainted by the mustard if it isn't used for anything else. Avoid silver. Mustard will tarnish it unless the spoon is cleaned immediately after each use.
I have a small ceramic one in the shape of a swan with it's back open where you put the mustard and the tiny ceramic spoon. I do like unusual things like this but not seen another one since I bought this many years ago.
