Do Sanctions Work? Errr Noo
10 Answers
how can I be eating better food and have more money by having my jsa for 4 weeks?, well I that's how its been , I get my travel expenses paid to interviews because I am sanctioned, I get my hair cuts paid for , by saying I have job interviews, I get free food and free help form the church because I have been sanctioned infact I was eating monk fish and rump steak last week, I could not afford this usually but free food bank has done me better , I have had fags and have not run short for anything for the 4 weeks, so how can sanctions be working ? they don't work , the only bad thing that has come out of it , are they are putting strain on food bank charities that offer free food to the poor and now they are been stretched to breaking point as more people get sanctioned, all that happens is that everyone else has to end up paying for my needs rather than paying for it out of my jsa,.... sanctions are been given out in hundreds of thousands of people over the uk wheres all the money going that's been saved? in helping people in jobs maybe?, not at all , stressed out dwp workers are leaving there job because of increased reedy fat cat govement officials, who in my opinion are out of touch with the real world

I think you are demonstratin g why it is right that govement (sic) officials are cutting back on benefits. You are clearly living too well off the State and millions of others, including me, and paying for it in our income tax. Roll on the next Conservative administrati on.

Each Sanction is an individual case and some are fair and others not - if the claimant honours their part of the contract then a sanction should not happen.
If a sanction is wrong it should be easier to get it overturned.
What do you see as an alternative if a claimant does not keep their side of the bargain?

the reason for the 2 threads are simple , one says how it may look unfair, and how it has made me sad and poor the other is to say well ive actually been better off the poorer I have become , so how can the sanctions work if I am better off for been sanctioned than I was when im actually getting my full jsa, I have basically manipulated the system and not by breaking any laws, so how can this be working , all it has done is shown how a mockery of the system I have made it , I even manage to run my own car , and I could not afford that on money when I was in full time work, so the art of surviving and been one step ahead is inm my far and ye sthe dwp may not see it but really they have done me a favour, and anyone who thinks stopping benefits for 4 weeks for missing 1 appointment with dwp warrants what they did then god help the uk , people cant see the bigger picture of what sanctions are creating , id say just be aware of more crime as people get desperate for basic human rights survival like the right to have food and water which the sanctioned person will still get but has to go another way round it its pointless...
Well, congratulations on your beating of the system - you must be very proud.
Not everyone who gets sanctioned will fare as well as you, they may run up debts on utilities and other bills.
I ask again ,what alternatives do you suggest for claimants who don't keep their side of the contract (in some cases repeatedly)?
