Self Scan Checkouts Are A Nightmare

I went shopping to Morrisons with my parents and what should have been an easy task took over 20 minutes with there being 1 person serving at the self scan checkouts of 8 people who all had problems at the same time such as incorrect item in bag, take the last item out of the bag item not recognised etc etc. Never again it should come with a health warning for people suffering from high blood pressure not to use them.

I always use Waitrose's Self-scan...they are the ones with the "gun" scanner that you use as you shop. so easy and quick with no problems. Plus, the free coffee and newspaper...of course.

I never use them in store but for years have scanned my own shopping when I get home (Market Research) but at least if that scanner plays up I can tell it what I think quite loudly without frightening other customers.

That's why it's best to avoid Morrissons. They are years behind in their use of technology.
It is my experience that Tescos system generally works well. Only when prats arrive with vegetables that they haven't created a scanning label for do delays occur.

Agree, nightmare! Place item in bagging area, item not recognized, call for assistance....place item in bagging area (item IS in bagging area, item is just too 'light' to recognize the damn thing)....more trouble than it's worth, would rather go to the 'basket only' checkout.

I do not use one for a full shop but find them a godsend when in a tearing hurry and only 4 things in my basket. The ones in Sainsbury are even easy when you have fruit or veg to weigh. The number of times the checkout staff manage to double scan things and I have to go back for a refund I sometimes think it would pay to use them every time.

I wouldn`t use anything else if I could help it. I know all of the foibles of the Sainsbury`s ones now and the only time I would join a queue is if I wanted cashback.

I don't usually have any problems. The worst thing that happened today was that although I scanned a bag of oranges and it definitely registered, it wasn't on the receipt when I got home, so I hadn't been charged for it.

237SJ, I use regular checkouts if I've got a meal deal because too often some clot's put the wrong bottle of wine on the shelves so the whole deal doesn't register. Aside from that I can do my own scanning.

I can't stand them, and always get in a huge flap. I only use them when my son is with me. He seems to know how to get round all the quirks of the various supermarket's machines.

I've used one once, never again. It wouldn't scan the label on a bag of spuds and then wouldn't accept a bottle of wine. Reason enough, I'd say, to use the ordinary tills.

I discovered that the ones at my local Asda won't accept large denomination notes the other day, handy when that's all you have on you, so I had to go to a checkout anyway, grrr!
