Got my admission date for incisional hernia op this morning, and I don't have the pre-op till next Friday (19th)
I have to present at 7.30am on New Years Eve!
Don't the surgeons want a day off?

The chances are that if you are done in the morning you will be out by afternoon with nothing more than a mild discomfort. The only reason they would keep you in overnight is if you live on your own, because they like to give 24 hours to get the anaesthetic totally out of your system.

New Years Eve is a normal working day for surgeons as much as anyone else.
Just to clarify Blackadders post, you may have to stay in a little longer, depending on the length/size of your incisional hernia.
I've seen them range from 15 minutes to 3 hours.
May I enquire what operation the original incision was made for, just to give a rough guesstimate if nothing else?

Thanks all, the original op was a keyhole gall bladder op, the hernia has popped through one of the sites on right side of tummy.
I always have a puzzle book and pen in my bag, I hate just sitting.
Parking not really an issue, I will drive to son's, he will take me to hospital and drop me off, then go home.
I am a bit puddled usually with a general, so will contact him when I am allowed back home.
(Last general I had (hip) I spent two days trying to knit hospital sheets with my fingers) ROFL.
