a ferry isn't UK soil and thus there's no process for that to happen. if he'd have dropped off the truck in Dover, then the authorities would probably have given him a train ticket to Eat Croydon and told him to report to Lunar House.

baza, I very much doubt the truck travelled via Eurostar, which is a dedicated high speed passenger service rather than one able to accommodate HGVs.

(or do they mean Eurotunnel? in which case the same principle for ferries applies, the shuttle trains are not UK soil).

This man had 'escaped a war ravaged country' the moment he stepped over the Sudanese border.

The moment he entered Europe should have been the moment he claimed asylum - these are, after all, the rules.

If this chap was wanting to claim asylum in the UK, he'd've made himself known to the authorities the moment he entered the UK - as mushroom has stated, this chap's intention was to disappear into the black economy.

He would have had a much better life in the first European country he stepped foot in, but he chose to ignore every European country he travelled through in order to risk getting into the UK.
