Who regularly has home delivery and which supermarket do you use?
How would you rate the whole experience...delivery (ease of getting a suitable time slot, and cost) substitutions, quality of fruit & veg, any other comments?
Thanks
My wife's first job when she left school was to work in a grocer's shop (just like Arkwrights). They offered a FREE delivery service to customers and I find it an absolute cheek that supermarkets charge for their deliveries, so I refuse to get involved with them.
I get a delivery every week from Asda. I buy a three month delivery pass for £15 and I can choose any delivery slot I like. Generally find them ok but some substitutions are bizarre.
I use Sainsburys sometimes. I find them very good but I never buy fruit or veg that way. I like to see the fruit and veg for myself , not trust someone else to do it on my behalf. The time slots are good, drivers, friendly and helpful. It's handy for heavy or bulky items. If substitutions are offered , you don't have to accept. You will receive a credit to your a/c.
Not the point, Ethandron. The delivery was an incentive to shop there rather than somewhere else. Anyway, have you ever seen Granville's bike loaded up?
If I go shopping in person I use Morrisons. Home delivery I use Tesco.
They are usually very good (Tesco) but yesterday....oh my...so so found it hard to bite my tongue.
I ordered a packet of ciggs and apparently you have to sign for them separately. Well....he couldn't find them and had me going through every bag looking for them (considering I opted for the no bag option) I almost had my whole shopping emptied in my porch. When I started taking the shopping to my kitchen he had the cheek to ask me "are you sure they aren't in there"
bhg, do you really believe supermarkets should give free delivery to every customer?
When your wife did the job the customer had to go to the grocers to buy the goods, now you can sit at home and order online.
Hi ethandron I use Tesco home delivery when I need a lot of shopping. I always choose their £1 slots which I can usually find at the time that's convenient for me. You do have a choice of whether you would want a substitute on every item and there is also space to leave a comment for your picker. I recently ordered an unsmoked gammon joint, but because they didn't have one, they sent smoked, so I told delivery man I didn't want it and it's no problem. When I ordered it the next week I said I would accept a substitute but then left a message for the picker to say 'Please don't choose smoked.' Sometimes they substitute with something of a higher value but you don't pay the extra. Th delivery man brings it into the kitchen and unpacks it for me and they are always very pleasant. Sorry I can't advise on fruit and veg as I don't buy either of these fresh. There is a minimum shop of £25 or else they add £4 to your total but I have no problem spending that on a big shopxx
i use tesco for a once monthly delivery of the heavy stuff, if you don't mind the odd hours then you can get a delivery for as little as £1. To me its worth paying so i don't have to lug bags of cat litter about. With tesco you have a min order of £25 or they add £4 i think it is to your basket.
to bhg481 - you are talking about a very different time, things are not the same, the customer would of had to go to the shop to place their order & their overheads would of been a lot cheaper. From what i understand the home delivery service doesn't make the supermarkets any money because of the associated costs.
I am signed up to 3 supermarkets - mainly use Tesco ,always grab the £1 slots (If Granville could deliver my £155 shop as of last week at Tesco prices for a quid, I'd happily pay him that).
Drivers friendly, don't do too badly with subs, perfect solution for me.
My delivery came about 45 minutes ago, no substitutions and a very polite delivery man.
My concern was the fresh fruit and veg but apart from two of the seven bananas, the rest of the fruit and veg is what I would have picked myself.
I was just going to use this service for a few weeks, due to circumstances, but if it continues to be as successful then I may keep it going, it's well worth the £1 I've paid.
I've used several. Stopped using Tesco when they cheated me on price. Waitrose and Sainsbury's I've found very satisfactory, especially the latter. All three gave fresh stock (not close to sell-by as often thought), booking slots was easy, and I always specified NO SUBSTITUTIONS after experiencing unsatisfactory selections (which admittedly I could and did turn away at the door).
Supermarkets need to cover their petrol used & pay staff that are employed to deliver. Having said that I think they could bring the delivery price down. Asda send a questionnaire out after delivery on how satisfied you are & do you have any comments. I think they must have had feedback regards delivery charge as they then introduced a 'delivery pass'
Sainsburys always. Just started using Morrisons, very impressed, colour coded bags and the driver put them straight into my hallway. I also use Iceland, their frozen salmon pieces for £6.00 a bag are great.
Had bad experience with Asda recently but that was the store's fault where the shopping came from.
