[i]The former Italy manager Arrigo Sacchi has denied being racist after he was quoted as saying there are “too many black players” at youth level in Italy – evidence that the nation is now “without dignity or pride”.[i]
Is this the very definition of racism?
If the players are good enough, then what's the problem if they are black?
///I always coached teams with different colours and I bought many, both at Milan and at Madrid.///
The first time Romans bought blacks was in the slave market so they always, it would seem through history, be expected to everything for the Italians. This man talks as though people are commodities!!! I don't believe he is deliberately racist but rather clumsy in the way he expresses himself.
If Ruud Gullit or Frank Rijkaard come out and say they think he is racist then I will take it as said, at the minute we only have the *some* of the words he said to go by.
Why was this missed out?
'“Italian football is now without dignity or pride because it has too many foreigners playing in the youth teams,”
That is a sentiment I would share about English football.
I can't say what I think of the quote from the manager without it being a string of expletives.
What I will say is well done to all the 'too many black players' for having ambition and also I wonder if he would be as vocal if he was on an operating table with mainly 'black' medical staff. I doubt he would say 'too many black staff' were trying to save my life - why not? because that sounds stupid - exactly like his other ridiculous and very racist comment.
