/// The Guardian's David Shariatmadari noted that "Britain finds itself with the queerest legislature in the world". ///

I never expected to read something like this coming from someone attached to the Guardian of all papers.

It's not a big deal at all.

In fact, on the contrary ... the Prime Minister should be given credit for tacitly acknowledging that the sexual orientation of MPs is now completely irrelevant.

It is not visible (unlike an MP's colour, or gender). So, frankly, it is not even worth mentioning.

Well done, David.
why should it be mentioned at all? We are always being told not to descriminate so surely it's no more relevant than saying that we now have the most members of parliament wearing DMs. Completely irrelevant.
Is referring to people as queer acceptable these days?
Vulcan -'to call someone 'queer' is accepted if you are in The Gay community a bit like the 'N' word is acceptable in some quarters (not all) if you are black.

That's interesting. And I agree with retro.

But, look ...

In the "Gay Bakers" thread, going on at the mo ... http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1420688.html

... the gay "customer" asked the baker to make a cake with the words "Queer Space" on the top.

The gay customer was insisting that the non-gay baker used the word "queer".
I remember when homosexuals in public life were at the mercy of blackmailers, I'm glad those days have passed, - I hope.
