After mulling things over, I have arranged to go into the local primary to do some 'work experience' with the aim of going back to teaching but switching to primary from secondary. Feeling quite excited + nervous - haven't worked for over eight years.

Good luck with it, sherrardk! You'll love it. I took early retirement from teaching 8 yrs ago but have been doing some substitute work since then. I now teach 2 mornings and one full day per week and find it so rewarding.
Best of luck Sher. I taught both, very rewarding and you actually have known some young children which many primary teachers have not.
Go girl!
David Cameron will put it down as part of their plan to reduce unemployment - you are famous.

Well, I'll go and give it a bash - don't know if I have the temperament for primary.

Davemano - I'm not unemployed, I'm a stay at home mum who needs to do something before I go mad.
Stay at home mothers are not unemployed just unpaid!
sherr has so many children she doesn't know what to do ! ..to quote someone lol...
Great news Sherr,I'm sure you'll love it and be making a difference too.
Point taken - good look
Hope it goes well!

I'm going to do year 6 first and then see how it goes - it'd be tricky to do year 5 or year 3 as I will have children in those classes and KS1 is way too far out of my comfort zone.
Sherr, you might surprise yourself.
I did some years Supply Teaching and went into Primary schools scared rigid.
Learned a lot (even how to play an ocarina for the littleies) and relearned how much fun teaching could be.
Sherr...you will be fantastic.....and just what you need....lots to learn but enjoy yourself too.....Gx
Best of luck, sherr. Hope things go well for you.
Well done Sherr, best of luck x
Good for you sherr, I am sure you will fit right in.

Think it's going to be a big change - going from a huge, multi-cultural upper school to a village primary school. On the plus side, I should be taller than most of them.
What is your reason for switching from Secondary to Primary, Sherr?
Question Author
We now live in a rural area with small secondary schools. My subjects are GCSE & A level options. The schools don't have sixth forms (I don't want a college job) and the schools have teachers that teach my subjects + a national curriculum subject (for example, Geography & Travel and Tourism).
Good luck with your exciting change in direction/career move.

Wolf, I nearly had heart failure just asking if I could go into the school, I tried to do it yesterday. & bottled out - no idea where my confidence has gone.
