On 'Rip off Britain' today on BBC1, they did tests/experiments in a lab to see how many germs, parasites, bugs etc you carry around in your bag for life.
As anticipated, they found all sorts of nasty germs, some they said were life threatening (goodness me, I'm in shock and horror), and have recommended that you buy an anti bug free bag, for just a few pence more.
Well they certainly got the name of the programme correct! Rip Off.
Well if you think about the 'old days' women carried their shopping in baskets with produce wrapped in paper, the paper was then burnt on the fire so there were probably very little germs. Perhaps we should go back to those days.
This never ending quest for a totally germ free world can be taken too far - common sense, hot soapy water and occasionally bleach it sufficient in most cases.
And then we wonder why there are more cases of asthma, allergies, food intolerance, and resistance to antibiotics. We reap what we sow...a sicker future.
