Have you tried RIGHT-Click your WiFi icon and select "Troubleshoot Problems".
Other than Pinky's suggestion, the first thing I'd try is turning off the laptop, turning off the router (and disconnecting it from the phone/cable line), waiting a minute or two and then reconnecting everything.

I'd also take a look at the 'Connection' icon (at the bottom right of the screen, possibly accessed via 'Show hidden icons') to see what's shown. If it shows a connection and you've got no internet access (irrespective of whether 'Internet access' or 'No internet access' is actually shown), I'd reset the TCP/IP stack:

(Ignore the first bit. Scroll down to 'Let me fix it myself').
Doing so has fixed 'no internet problems' for me several times, and dozens of ABers have thanked me for the tip as well, so it might work for you.

Thanks.

Have tried Pinky's suggestion. It's still not working. Will have another session with it later and tryBurnchicos suggestion.
Which network adapter do you have?

I have an HP ZBook with an Intel AC-7260 adapter which is known to disable itself occasionally (mine does).

You could try going into "Device Manager" and uninstalling it and then scan for hardware changes (under Action) which will re-install it. You could also check that the drivers are up-to-date.

Am a bit of a numpty re computers. Am late 50s and never had computer tuition. I only know how to use it by watching our son use his when he lived here. I have a hp windows 7. No idea re adaptor. It does say wireless adaptor disabled but when i turn the settiing on It doesn't come on. To use the Internet I am using my tablet but I hate the touchscreen and much prefer the laptop keyboard, hence struggling to find a solution.
OK Unionstreet:

Control Panel > Device Manager

Scroll down the list until you come to "Network Adapter" - click on the small triangle to open-up the list and it will list the adapters you've got. One of them will be wireless; right-click and uninstall.
At the top of the screen pull-down the "Action" tab and click "scan for hardware changes". That will spot your uninstalled network adapter and re-install it.
If that doesn't work, on the list of network adapters right-click the wireless one and select "Update driver software". It's not a bad idea to do that anyway just to make sure the latest drivers are installed.
