Network Cables For Smart Tv/youview

Hopefully this is the last question I'll have to ask on the subject. We need about ten metres of cable to connect our router to TV and Youview but I'm totally bamfoozled by the type of cables. We'll buy 'ready made' cables rather than try to wire up the connectors as that's pretty much beyond us.

So Cat 5, 5e, 6, 6e or 7? Maplins have some flat cables that are a lot cheaper - about half the price. The Youview kit came with a flat cable but only 3 metres so I don't know if a longer one would be suitable. Any thoughts welcome please.

Just to make it plain - we need two ten metre cables.

All the numbers you list (Cat 5, 5E etc) just define the speed that cable can cope with.

If it is not too expensive go for Cat 6 as this copes with fast Ethernet (gigabit). Cat 5 is for slower Ethernet and best not used, 5E is a bit better but 6 is the one to go for.

You could connect your TV to the router via wi fi to save having the cables all over the house.

Thanks VHG - we had major problems with getting the Smart Tv to connect wirelessly - see my previous threads. It worked fine to start with but eventually it went belly up, couldn't get a solution at all.

Ah I see from your other questions that you have had problems with your TV to wi fi.

If you are going to drill a hole in the wall and push the cable through make sure you cover up the end of the cable connector with plastic held on with sellotape so you don't get dust in the cable connections.

Thanks - hubby put a plastic pipe through the wall for the cables to go through ,hoovered up and tidied up the plaster afterwards so hopefully no dust - but can follow your advice if you think it necessary.
