Both Shows are very highly regarded in the sitcom world. So i was  just wondering if you had to choose between the 2 shows.Which 1 would it be?.I would choose Porridge.I was watching a few episodes last night.Even to this day it still makes me laugh out loud.Something that Fawlty Towers very rarely does.Porridge also has the better set of characters

I would have to choose Fawlty Towers gerry.  Was never a huge fan of Porridge although I loved Ronnie Barker.  But Fawlty Towers makes me laugh every time especially the Germans and the Gourmet Evening ones.
Porridge.  I felt Faulty Towers, although funny was at times  Over The Top
Fawlty Towers is better, John Cleese is a legend!

And ronnie barker is too....

I cannot choose because both were truly great and innovative television comedies...with unbelievably good charactors, great writing and laughs aplenty..

A good question, but i'm not sure you can compare them, both were top quality shows, but completely different, Fawlty Towers was a Zaney comedy, with a total eccentric as the lead, whereas Porridge was more down to eath, and played  with the human element and the reality of prison life.
They were both class acts, its a bit like asking which is best a peach or an apple.
both excellent shows in their own right but fawlty towers has given me some good belly laughs over the years whereas porridge just made me chuckle.
I remember being in tears laughing, the first time I saw the one about Manuel's rat!....but Porridge never seemed that funny to me.Nowadays however,I find Porridge funnier than Fawlty Towers. It just comes down to personal opinion though, cos they're both classics that have stood the test of time.

Fawlty Towers is my favourite sitcom of all time.

The way poor Basil just keeps digging a bigger hole for himself and the memorable one liners he used to come out with.

Basil- "They started it"

Germans- "No we did not"

Basil- "Yes you did, you invaded Poland!"

Classic!

Porridge

  Porridge!

Where did that "ft" come from?  I wrote "FT", not "ft".
Is there a gremlin stealing my upper case?
Fawlty Towers was a great example of British Farce - lots of visual gags but ultimately unbelievable. Porridge was more subtle showing Ronnie Barker's skill with words. Both great shows. Both still funny. Impossible to choose which is funnier.
