Good Morning Early Birds
Sunday. I shall start by retyping my lost post of yesterday, regarding dinner Friday evening. Hold on it will make sense, I promise.
The vegetable soup was obviously the leftover vegetables from Thursday, cooked to death and pureed, then water and some colouring added. It was disgusting. The main course I chose was the meat platter, expecting a range of meats with vegetables. It consisted of two slices of Turkey, I reckon from a bird that surrendered, with one slice of ham that was more fat than meat. It was supposed to have boiled potatoes, I asked for chips, what I got was three small supposedly roast potatoes. They were about a third carbon and the rest so hard it was all but impossible to eat them. I didn't. The vegetables when they arrived consisted of raw cauliflower and green beans, also raw. The dessert I opted for was fruit salad with cream. That consisted of chopped apple, chopped pear, a few grapes and a single cube of pineapple. The cream was about a teaspoon of clotted cream. To say it was awful is being polite!
Last night however was the complete opposite.
The tomato soup was freshly made and very good. I opted for a pork steak for main. It was cooked to perfection, the vegetables roast potatoes, sweetcorn and carrots, also cooked to perfection. For dessert I opted for the Apple crumble with custard. Excellent!
We had toyed with the idea of eating out and refusing to pay the hotel for the meal we wouldn't have had. But we could not fault dinner last night. Why the difference I can't explain. I will just say that the menu choices were limited.
The waiting staff were excellent, helpful and attentive. I must say they were embarrassed Friday evening, much happier last night.
Have a happy day everyone.
We head homeward today after another excellent evening last night. But Friday's dinner will not be easily forgotten.
