My traditional (well I've done it for the last few years) thread about the foods that mean Christmas.

I'll start with ...

A really good pork pie for Boxing Day

Bendicks Bittermints - about the only chocolate I eat in a year - divinely sharp and minty

Stollen - the Aldi specially selected for preference

Liquorice Allsorts - a big tin please

Tangerines - not the ubiquitous loose skinned satsuma, but hard shiny orange balls full of piquant juice


I've got more ... but over to you first ... I may even get some ideas for my 'trip of doom' to Aldi this afternoon.

A good salty ham, some pickles and crusty rolls on Boxing day with the footy and pavlova for breakfast.
Nuts.
Costco extra special mixed nuts, brazils, macadamias, cashews, pecans, almonds... All ready to go with no bothersome shells to circumvent.

I love proper black ham - cut in nice thick slices (rather than shaved with a microtome) and served with cranberry sauce on the side.

Careful shoota - you'll have the coven after your nuts.
Orange and lemon jelly slices, just for the nostalgia factor. Advocaat for Snowballs are a must.
Nuts here too! In a shell for me though. Takes more time so I eat fewer in a sitting.
None left in Sainsburys yesterday ☹️

I do like the occasional lemon slice, prudie - must look in Aldi/Lidl later.

I'll skip the Advocaat - my dad used to produce the same (ever more sticky) bottle every year - I'm amazed my mum survived.
Lagavulin 16 year old is sitting here next to my chair.

A bottle of 6 puttenyos Tokaji wine to be opened for Christmas evening....

Clementines here, brought in from Corsica and a 1/4 of a wheel of Stilchelton.
...and back to reality, my Xmas treats Bailey's to put into coffee (never drink it other times of year) a nice maple covered ham to cut at,plenty of good port and cheeseboard and wadges of christmas cake with proper Wensleydale cheese.
A triple smoked gammon with pickles.

Bendicks (though I've already polished off a box and a half, couldn't help it)

A nice pavlova (usually a Crunchie one)
Pickled Walnuts.

I could eat one or two, Zacs - with my pork pie - but a jar would defeat me I'm afraid.

I bought a rich fruit cake from Aldi a month or so ago - and have subcontracted the feeding and icing to a well known AB member.

At the last count she'd spiked nearly a quarter bottle of spiced rum into it (in daily instalments I believe) - quite what the icing will be like I dread to think ...

As much lobster, scallops, hot smoked salmon as I can eat.
the level of rum in the bottle may have gone down, s-d, but have you actually checked where it's gone to?
The bottle slipped, Dave........quite often I admit.......but hey and hic!....Who wants dry cake?........x
