Can anyone explain the cartoon on P17?

A couple sitting on stools at a kitchen table. She is reading a book, he appears to be working with a laptop.

She says "Fancy putting the kettle on?"

The next frame shows her unchanged, he is making tea with his laptop closed and phone etc put away.

Is there a joke in there somewhere that I'm missing?

Perhaps she wants to chat so he's put away all his toys.

I can see nothing humorous at all, but with it being Private eye I would doubt it's anything to do with something as innocuous as a chat, Good morning Tilly.

What's his expression, as he makes the tea?

Perhaps there is some text missing from the last frame.

I couldn't see any point to it, but I've noticed that the cartoons they lump together on a single page are generally considerably less funny than the ones appearing individually throughout the magazine.

......she wants a bit of peace and quiet, whilst she's reading,......so she distracts him.....?

Had a quick look - I think the point is he makes a cup of tea, but only for himself.

It may be important but I still fail to see the humour , Tilly or am I still missing something.

She asks him to make tea and he only makes his own......he's miffed.

Not hugely funny but produces a wry smile, perhaps.

He appears to have only one mug but he might be making it for her, not himself.

I think any cartoon that needs this amount of consideration fails dismally. I thought a good cartoon should leap off the page at you.

Does the mug have 'His' or 'Hers' written on it?

You can't see any expression on his face, nor anything written on the mug. It's not clear that he's only making one cup, as the kettle etc is hidden behind his head and there could be a second cup there.
I'm just glad it's not me going senile and missing the joke!

Also "Forgotten Moments in Music History" is getting less funny especially in this issue. I had high hopes for that theme when it started. But the captions are never quite right.

The mug has nothing written on it. In the second frame his laptop which was open is now closed and his I-pad, calculator and notepad have totally disappeared.

When you say the kettle is behind his head is it possible that he is wearing it as in "put the kettle on"

No, it's just that his head obscures that part of the table.

Even if the point is that he is only making one cup, he could be making it for her because he didn't want one.
