The True Meaning Of 'essex Girl'
21 Answers
I married an Essex Girl 30 years ago this year. We always have a chuckle when we hear the
Essex Girl stereotypes being trotted out.
She was born in High Beech and has always said a lot of people were conceived there but not that many were born there.

My Essex Girl has just retired after nearly 40 years with the NHS and ending up as a Dept. Manager.

I'm just trying to illustrate, Balders, that it seems perfectly acceptable to stereotype Essex Girls and take the urine out of them (even if only in jest). But many people would fail to see the joke if the same insults were applied to other sections of society, whether in jest or not. Jokes are OK at the expense of Essex girls, it seems, but not of other people.
Don't get me wrong, I'm amused by Essex Girl jokes and I hope that the gorgeous gals from that part of the world take them in good heart (and most that I know are more than capable of giving as good as they get). But I just wonder why we're not allowed to similarly take the Mickey out of some other secttions of the community.

My best friend lives in Essex. From when I have been there I have always been met with friendliness. Essex people are Cockneys who have moved out of the Eastend when the people from the Indian subcontinent moved in. The Essex people have inherited the cheerfulness and close family ties that East London people had.
