Boiler Pressure Problem...part Two
Togo & others might remember I posted last Sunday about a drop in pressure on my boiler & a small drip from under the boiler.
Well, as I had home emergency cover within my home insurance, I rang them & they sent an engineer out on Wednesday.
This young man was very efficient & clearly enthusiastic about his job. He found the problem was the hydroblock & had to order the part, returning today to do the work.
He arrived just before 9am & didn't leave till 12.30pm. When he started to sort through things in the boiler (I had told him the diverter valve was replaced in April this year) he told me the washer under (?) the diverter valve was all scrunched up & the screws weren't properly fixed. There was also a bracket for a pipe & this bracket would have been removed before the diverter was replaced. I was then told this bracket had not been put back in place but "wedged" down the side of the pipe.
Anyway, today's engineer put everything right, replacing the washer & screws & positioning/securing the bracket back to its correct place.
After fitting the hydroblock, he went outside to my gas meter but before he went, he asked if the pressure was correct after this previous work in April had been done. I told him I was 100% sure no pressure check was done. I'd let the plumber in to do the work & the only time he went out of the door again was when he went home.
The pressure check revealed quite a substantial leak today & he said that after anything was taken out of the boiler the pressure check must be done but I wasn't aware of this. The April man had also taken the heat exchanger out to flush it through.
Because of this serious leak, my boiler has now been condemned until next Tuesday when an engineer will return to fit a new valve.
Stupidly, I was given no receipt for the work the original man did so it's my word against his that the pressure check wasn't done. I would also add that when this man arrived in April, he was with another man & it was him who worked on my boiler whilst the other fitted some new taps on my bathroom basin.
I know I was an idiot not to get a receipt & know the guy I called in was GasSafe registered but I have no idea of the other man's name/qualifications but surely they both should have known this pressure check should have been done before leaving my house.
Today's man was aghast at their work. I am so angry.
