Hi,

Anyone have a rough idea of what it would cost to sort out some squeaky floorboards on a carpeted landing ? Presumably would need to include taking carpet up, nailing or screwing 3 or 4 floorboards, then re laying the carpet (which has 2 carpeted bedrooms & a tiled bathroom off it so 3 "grippers").

Thanks

Dont just relay the carpet .. think about it, why are the boards squeeking in the first place ? Having been out to this kind of job many times, I can tell you the most likely cause. I would ring a carpet shop and ask how much to relay carpet etc

Would start getting too complicated, mallyh. They'd want to go round (rented property) to quote, & wouldn't be too much help as I'd still be non the wiser about the floorboards themselves. Just wanted to get a rough idea as I've said I'll reimburse the tenants but they don't want to pay out before Xmas. If was likely to be < £100 say, I could just send it to them.

Thanks tho' :)

Yes it is a fairly easy job for a handyman, but you cant just go winding screws into the loose boards. The boards will need to be lifted and care taken to avoid screwing into pipework that may well be notched into the joists below the boards.
Find a local handyman and it shouldn't take half a day to make a few suports, screw down the boards and tuck the carpet in.
Having done plenty of them, I know that your £100 should more than cover it.

Thanks alavahalf, very useful to know :) Think they were squeaking when I lived there too (from new) so that makes sense. Not in RG are you ? LOL
Sorry .. but have spent years working around RH. though.
Since having my knee done, I have had to avoid jobs on the floor.
That got me off the hook, didn't it.
