Are you familiar with Bavaria?

We are in the process of booking some holidays and I fancy a week in Bavaria in 2019. I'm wondering where's the best town to stay, best time of year to go and must-see sites.

When I was much younger, worked for a year in Munich. Lovely city. Friendly, clean and very cosmopolitan.

I'm going back to the 60's, Munich was a lovely place, the countryside around was beautiful. We used to drive down from Detmold for the October fest, not what you would want I suspect, but in late spring/early summer it is lovely. There a lots of wee villages and towns to explore.

WBM, we actually like the idea of Oktoberfest. I have seen a nice town called Fussen but will consider Munich. Oh and thanks for the recipes - they arrived today xx

Been to Munich once but that's about it.
I actually give Germany a wide berth when we go on our tour of Europe.

I like Germany - its one of the places that I miss from when I used to go there and I never expected that. Leipzig is nice, so is Bremen and Stuttgart. Maybe time for a visit

I will be travelling to Croatia for the summer hols and Bavaria will probably be on the route this time around.

Pay a visit to Dachau, very very sad place. Just outside Munich. Also the beerfest which was held in Goetheplatz, great jugs of beer and funfair. The English Gardens rather like our Hyde Park, beautiful.

Nuremberg.
Beautiful walled old town - all cobbled streets, specialist shops, no cars and so on. It has probably the best Christmas fairs in Germany.

Smaller, friendlier than Munich.

Has history, if you want it - Nuremberg Trials. Also has an airport, decent metro system and is pretty awesome.

Also, it's in the next-door state of Baden-Württemberg, but you might like to try Lake Constance (Bodensee). Beautiful lakeside holiday resort excellent for walking, sight-seeing, day trips to Switzerland. Not flashy or gaudy, but calming, relaxing and very pretty.

Croatia is beautiful, Talbot. You have to visit Plitvice Lakes!

I don't know what the Oktoberfest is like now. The last time we went, four of us in my car. Parked it way outside the town, then we forgot where it was. The police found it because of the BFG number plate. great fun!

I'm looking at Cape Verde for next Christmas. Know you've been there NOM. All the rentals look a bit rough and ready, is it a low key place? We don't want to slum it obviously :-)

We went all-inclusive, Prudie. The weather is gorgeous but the sea is rough and there are strong currents.

We're looking at Sri Lanka and Maldives for a late honeymoon but we're not sure when yet.
