Okay, I know I've posted a lot today!

But Dec and his wife are fighting for custody over their dog in their divorce... it just made me think of all the poor dogs whose lives get turned upside down, as they don't understand a relationship breakdown.

They just need the wisdom of Solomon.
Let the dog choose
I presume you meant to say, 'Ant and his wife...'
couldn't they share the time, half the week with one partner and half the week with the other, everyone wins, the dog doesn't know that they have split.
better than no one wins and they put the dog in a home.
AS they both think enough of the dog to fight for ownership that is not likely to happen.
then flip a coin, its the only way one gets to keep the dog. Fighting over it isn't going to help them at all.
Joint custody?

In any family, in my opinion, a dog “belongs” to one of the family and always has. If anything had happened to me when my Lab was alive, although both of my children adored him, he always had a special relationship with my daughter so, Toby would have gone to live with her.
For goodness sake, is it not difficult enough in a divorce to protect children . if the owners love their animal joint custody surely .
It would make sense to allow the dog to remain in the surroundings it is used to.
that probably means with her if she gets the house?

Probably will Emmie, Women have a reputation as 'Housekeepers'
Seeing that Ant seems to spend most of the time away on TV filming locations and the dog is settled at home then it should stay with Lisa. It's not fair to uproot the dog. Ant can always call and see the dog .
Whoever can eat the most critters bits and bugs gets to keep the dog, well it works in the jungle.
Agree with andres.
Whoever can spend most time with the dog as that is most important. The dog is going to miss the person who has left and needs contact though as he is obviously loved and will be missed by whoever doesn't get custody of him. So sad but heartwarming that both care enough to want to keep him close. Dogs don't understand or question - they just give love unconditionally.
