Reported in English language papers.Cave paintings, some in Andalucia Spain have been linked to Neanderthal man, have been found to predate the arrival of Homo Sapiens by 20,000 years. The paintings were dated by a non destructive dating process.

maybe that info was gleaned from the new BBC2 Civilisations programme last week, as Simon Sharma covered that exact topic, amongst many others, equally interesting.
