Does One Tip The Gravedigger?

The memorial is over. Now it is time for me to inter my husband's cremated remains. The caretaker and myself will pick out a site, and then he will have the grave dug ahead-of-time. He will be there to bury the remains. Is it customary to give him money for this service?

Yes, he is a council worker and should be very grateful indeed.

Someone else to tip ? Have to say it never occurred to me. Not that I got tipped for my job either. I guess tip if you want to.

I have never thought of tipping a grave-digger, or anyone to do with a funeral service.

In olden days, when you were about to be executed, it was customary to tip the headsman. He could after all do a very slow, sloppy job if he was unhappy.
