Dog Eating Habbit
65 Answers
Hey peeps. So basically our 4 year old dog's favorite meal is chocolate. He eats it at least 3 times a day since he was a pup and even knows where the cocolate tin is to bang his pore on when he is feeling hungry. Anyway as i have been vegan 2 years now then i have tried transitioning him to vegan chocolate but he just doesnt eat it. All the other vegan burgers etc he loves but its just the chocolate. He eats everything to be honest but just not this. What other treats can i give him that we can share? For example This Christmas we had tofurkey which he devoured immediately but when I brought out the vegan chocolate cake he turned his nose up and had to give him the usual quality streets. Anyway any advice for treats please as I am struggling to find the ingrediant he doesnt like or just being difficult so he can get the good normal chocolate?

If you really had a dog eating habit, you'd have eaten the dog by now, and no longer have an issue.

For example:
a 27-year-old border collie whose vegan diet of rice, lentils, and organic vegetables earned her consideration by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest living dog in 2002. Many commercial meat-based dog foods can cause health problems in our animal companions. Pet food has also been recalled during mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), scares because of the risk that contaminated meat was processed into the food. One deputy commissioner states that cats especially “are susceptible to BSE.”

Dogs are omnivores but the main part of their diet is meat.
The meat should be raw and attached to a bone preferably, this helps keep their jaw muscles strong and chewing the bone assists in cleaning their teeth. Dry kibble contains a lot of vegetable matter and a good quality one assists their digestive system.
If you want a vegan pet get a Budgie ;-/

Judt read this wow :(
Approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog; one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog. Semi-sweet chocolate has a similar toxic level.Feb 17, 2007

I think ukanonymous is winding us up, I really don't think that anybody in this day and age can be that ignorant about the very basic requirements of a dog!! surely a vegan would want to do the very best they possibly could for a dog and would have found out how to look after one, but no! this one is doing his very best to poison his dog and then deprive the dog of his natural food. Its a wind up for sure!!!
Jordyboy this is interesting. How do you feel about what happens to dogs in China? I presume you will not be very happy about it. I mention this because pigs are more sentient and intelligent than dogs yet suffer the same cruel dwath in the uk and its just for taste. Just a simple taste. Anyway I will certainly stop the chocolate thing immediately until I ask the vet but may I ask what it is avout a dogs taste buds that is more valuable to you than the lives and suffering of 100's more animals? Dogs can live on a vegan diet as I have friemds whos dogs chamged. Afterall dogs are not directly from nature and have evolved to be suited to a domestic way of (if evolution actually exosts) Maybe I missunderstand it and I am not trying to have a go at your opinions rather understand them more but basically I should not have a dog because I value other animals lives over his taste? I feel like you think I am a bad person or something that is abusing a dog.
