Tonight's been a bit different. Ive been to church for the first time in decades.
Not to hear a sermon or to worship but to see a Christian comedian. (as to why I attended?...explanation available upon request).
To be fair, he was actually quiet funny and the evangelism bit at the end wasn't unexpected. No collection plate either which was a bonus as I had nothing in my pockets and I wasn't about to crack my wallet open.

Upon getting home I decided to view a few you-tubes vids of him (because I found him genuinely funny)
But this one got me back in the real world (as opposed to the world of comedy or religion...is there a difference?)

Between the 16.00 mark and the 17.00 mark he completely dismisses the OT killings, bloodshed and violence and makes a joke of it. He then turns it into some morality tale!

I just don't get why or how the Old Testament is disregarded and yet is considered a part of the Christian canon??
Is killing people ok as long as God asks you to do it?

BTW...That vid is taken of you tube, not what I saw tonight ;-)
I think making a joke of the OT is a risky technique....haven't watched the video. My personal view of the bible is that it is a library and not a single book....different authors, written at different times for different reasons.

That's not in doubt!
no killing people is not ok
there is no such thing as a bad religion only bad practitioners
imho
I'm sure Jesus... had a sense of humour watching 'the life of Brian.

And where do the bad practitioners get there ideas from?

Having read the Gospels, I know that ur wrong! He condemned you to hell for such a blasphemy. He was a bit sensitive like that...
nailit, many people (including Theland) don't accept this

woof,
think you will find that many evangelical Christians (Inc Theland) will say that the bible is a collection of 66 books, written over a 1500 yr time period, and written by over 40 authors and yet telling the same story...
And its cra p.

Used to believe this rubbish myself. Had a life since them days ;-)
If I say I get it, you've moved on, will you stop?
Ironically, it's when I realise the preacher is not a comedian, that they actually believe what they're saying, that I'm left scratching my head wondering where I'd missed the punch line.
Not too many people realise that 'The Old Testament' is actually very many books written over many many years ! There is more than 1000 years range between the oldest 'Old Testament' and the most recent 'Old Testament' ! The oldest parts predate ancient Egypt !!!
And thus are the prototype ideas for the religion. It's changed a few times since.
Nailit - why do you say the OT is disregarded?
And no, it is not carp, that's a bit too simplistic even for you.
Theland, I didn't notice that Nailit said that the OT was disregarded. Did I miss something?
It's below the video link nailit posted, atheist.
Thanks, Scorp... Oh I see it now.
:-)
Atheists should not shy away from the burden of proof.
Anything less is simply an opinion, uninformed, and says more about the psychology of the atheist making the claim, than about the construct of the discussion.
Nailit - You mention the OT killings.
First reading - shocking.
Look deeper and you find justice.
